Community Adoption

Local stations can be an important community facility with many of them unstaffed, therefore attracting vandals and graffiti artists.  This makes it difficult to keep stations tidy and attractive.

The Partnership is working with the local authorities, First Great Western, the British Transport Police and other organisation to identify what needs to be done, the priorities, and possible sources of funding.  We very much wish to involve local communities and users in this work - it is their station and as part of this we are encouraging local community involvement.

Over the past 2 years we have been able to work with many local communities to improve their local stations.  The interest that has been shown and the work undertaken has significantly improved the appearance of those stations, reduced the damage caused by vandals and anti-social behaviour and the stations now reflect the local community.

Many of the stations have also benefited from artwork by local school children, which has brightened the station and taken further the sense of community ownership.

If you are interested in becoming involved with your local station or have ideas to help improve it, please contact Sarah Collins, Partnership Officer at Severnside Community Rail Partnership on 0779 556 2311 or email severnside@gmail.com. A meeting of all interested parties can be arranged including the Station Manager.
